Many CaDAS members are interested in astrophotography. They are capable of taking very high quality images with relatively inexpensive equipment, often as good if not better than professionally produced pictures. Below are a selection of members images currently available.

Comet C/2009 P1 Garrardd, 26-Sep-11 (approx Mag8.0) moving from Lyra into Hercules. 12 subs of 4 min each 5 darks at ISO800 using astro-modded Canon 1000D with CLS clip filter on SkyWatcher 80mm PRO HEQ5 PRO mount. Autoguided with QHY5 on Celestron 102 using PHD and aligned stacked using DeepSkyStacker3.3.2 - colour balance tweaked un-sharp mask in PhotoShop CS2.

Jupiter, 20-Oct-11, 02:25UT. Celestron C8 with 2.5X PowerMate, TouCam PRO II, HEQ5 PRO, 10fps 1/33sec shutter 90sec AVI stacked in Registax v5 @ 95% quality using 731/913 frames. Colour balance levels tweaked in PhotoShop.

M81 & M82, small hours of 23-Jan-10 a very windy cold night, hence only 4 decent 4min subs without "seagulls" for stars. Celestron C8 on HEQ5 PRO mount at prime focus (unguided, but PEC control), with f/6.3 focal reducer ISO 800 on Canon 1000D DSLR. Too tired to take flats, so stacked in DeepSkyStacker, artificial flat luminosity layer created in PhotoShop.

NGC 6960, The Western Veil Nebula (AKA The Witch's Broom) 52 Cygni, in Cygnus - first go at it in small hours of 28-Sep-11. 20 subs of 4 min each, 10 darks 20 flats at ISO800 using astro-modded Canon 1000D with CLS clip filter on SkyWatcher 80mm PRO HEQ5 PRO mount. Autoguided with QHY5 on Celestron 102 using PHD and aligned stacked using DeepSkyStacker3.3.2 - tweaked in PhotoShop CS2.

NGC 7000, The North American Nebula, in Cygnus - first go at it and the camera should have been the other way around ... it was late I was tired, small hours of 28-Sep-11. 20 subs of 4 min each, 10 darks 20 flats at ISO800 using astro-modded Canon 1000D with CLS clip filter on SkyWatcher 80mm PRO HEQ5 PRO mount. Autoguided with QHY5 on Celestron 102 using PHD and aligned stacked using DeepSkyStacker3.3.2 - tweaked in PhotoShop CS2.

Noctilucent clouds 3-Jul-11, but tweaked a bit to show a bit more detail

Noctilucent clouds 10-Jul-11, panorama of 10 stitched shots of 0.8s at f/5.6 ISO800, Canon 1000D with 80-200 lens set at 80mm. Viewing conditions deteriorating from A1027 footbridge in Norton (lots of light pollution) 0:45 BST.

Venus & Old Moon in the arms of the New - Norton, Boxing day 2011 (5:14pm GMT). Canon 1000D with CLS clip filter, ISO800, 3.2sec, Sigma 18-200mm zoom lens @ f/5.6.

Venus, Mercury, Crescent Moon Daffodils : 15-APR-10 @ 20:21BST, Norton-on-Tees. Canon 1000D with EF80-200mm lens Astronomik CLS clip filter , IS01600, f/5.6, 4sec (Venus brighter to the left, Mercury framed in middle of "twig triangle" waxing Moon 2% crescent to the lower right about to set - earthshine).
